“This is the apocalypse,” sings Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson as their new single “No Horses” comes to its chilling conclusion. It starts off sounding like it’s going to be a synth pop song, albeit a dark one, with Shirley singing, “They’ll love you,

Usually, our song of the day selections are just released, new songs. But sometimes one feels like shining the proverbial light on something that’s been around for a while. That’s the case with today’s pick, “Mahal Kita” by Emmy The Great.

With all of the different ways to discover new music these days, it’s not very hard to find a great song. Finding one so beautiful that it gives you goosebumps, however, can be rather difficult. Well, that’s exactly what we have here today with Auni’s ethereal track “The River.” Honestly, I haven’t heard a song…

As you probably have figured out by now, most of our song of the day selections are chosen because they’re catchy. It’s almost an unwritten rule that we only select the most infectious tunes we come across. There are exceptions to this rule and today is one such exception. Today’s song of the day, alt-J’s…

“Why Bother” is the second single from Luke Faas, a 23-year-old Norwegian singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. It follows his debut single, “Should’ve Seen It.” At first, the lyrics of the punchy, seductive, electro-soul “Why Bother” might sound apathetic, like a depressed person not wanting to bother doing anything. Massive, pulsating beats that nod to the pop of the ’80’s make Lily McQueen’s fantastic new single, “Chasing Your Love,” both powerful as gunshots and as addictive as nicotine gum. She’s so cool that she’ll frost up your headphones in spite of the fact that her vocals are smooth and warm-hued. This is one of…

“Hook, Line & Sinker” is the ass-kicking second song to be released from Royal Blood’s forthcoming album How Did We Get So Dark?, which will be released on June 16th via Warner Bros. Records. If the rest of the album rocks as hard as this one we’re about to get blown away. Just as we…

Terence Ryan hails from our neck of the woods, Boston, Massachusetts. His location is what motivated us to check out his new song/video “Mean It,” but even if he wasn’t from Boston we’d still be making it our song of the day for today because it’s a damn fine R&B number with soulful vocals and…

Wendy Bevan, who I interviewed late last year, has a new EP coming out on May 12th via Kwaidan / !K7 Records called Love from the Moon and today we have the luxurious title track for you. Dig that rolling bass and her icy vocals during the electro-pop gem’s verses and the radiant chorus that…

After a couple of mainstream pop radio hits with their previous and self-titled album, anyone could have predicted that Paramore’s first single from their new album After Laughter would be tailored for radio. Well, that’s exactly what we’ve got here: Paramore with a lovely pop melody, especially catchy beats, and an infectious chorus that you…

“Hide and Seek” by Sam Levin is a wonderful folk-tronic tune that mixes acoustic guitars and electronic beats with vocals that split the difference between pop and folk. There’s a playful element to the song that reminds me of Ben Lee’s music. I’m also reminded of Ben Folds and, to a lesser degree, Regina Spektor.
