Lately, I’ve been checking out a lot of underground rap. I love the latest albums by Kendrick Lamar and A$AP ROCKY, among others, but there are thousands of insanely talented rappers who’ll never get the attention or accolades that they receive, this even though they well-deserve them. Thus, instead of plugging artists you’ve likely checked…

Is this the same Gregory Porter of the jazz world, who once sang “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” with Jamie Cullem? Why, yes — yes, it is… His is not a voice I ever would have ever expected to mesh well with Disclosure’s dubby beats but somehow it works. I know, a jazz singer shouldn’t…

Metro Station is back! Their amazing new album, Savior, is out today! The band are calling it a mixtape; here’s why: “We’re just calling it a mixtape because; it has a ton of different producers doing each track, we’re selling 18 songs for super cheap and we just felt like it fit that thought concept…

Today Ben Lee unveiled the video for his uppity and infectious new single, “Big Love,” and it’s as heart-warming as a music video could ever possibly be. You see, the video is made up of the home video footage of the longest married couple in the U.S., John and Ann Betar, who are celebrating 82…

“Wildfire” is the second single from Laura Burhenn, aka The Mynabirds, upcoming third album Lovers Know and it’s an infectious little ditty if ever there was one. Often, The Mynabirds music features politically-themed, or otherwise serious, subject matter. But this passionate, uptempo love song shows Burhenn’s lighter side, which I found refreshing.

It seems like just yesterday my parents and I were at The Beach Boys’ 50th Anniversary Concert and I was listening to the group’s excellent comeback album, That’s Why God Made The Radio. But that was 2012 — time seems to fly even faster than they say it does. But now Brian Wilson is back…

Is it just downtempo pop or is it R&B or, perhaps, trip-hop? I say it’s all of the above, though less on the pop side and more somewhere between R&B and trip-hop. I’ll admit that it’s slow moving, but once you’ve heard it a few times you start losing track of time when you listen…
