#songoftheday / #amlistening = POPPY: “ANYTHING LIKE ME”

“You shouldn’t be anything like me,” pop star turned heavy metal kid Poppy sings insistently on her ferocious new single, “Anything Like Me,” which finds her sounding not unlike a female Marilyn Manson. “I’m sorry for what I’ve become / Because I’m becoming someone,” goes part of the first verse of the take no prisoners track, which starts off gentle as a lamb and quickly morphs into a mean lion on steroids and amphetamines. Then, eventually, transforms into something subtle and rather beautiful before one last beast of a roar gets the last laugh. If it doesn’t scare you away, you’ll be listening to it on repeat like us.

Poppy co-directed the appropriately dark video for the song from her alluring new album I Disagree, which is out now. She plays Brighton Music Hall in the Boston, Massachusetts area on February 4th and 5th. We hear the 5th is sold out but you can still get tickets for the 4th!

She sounds as if someone put hot sauces in her tea. I like it.

I didn’t find her that interesting before but the new album I find myself listening to 5x a day. I hope she stays on this course. Go Poppy!

This is either the best or worst thing I’ve heard all week. I’ll have to let it percolate and see.

I watched her show last night. It was stirring and I’m feeling kinda evil today. in a good way, of course.
