One of my favorite albums this year is The Pretty Reckless’ Going to Hell, a killer metal album if ever there was one. Taylor Momsen is like the new Courtney Love. The powerful voice that comes out of her is astounding when you consider that she’s the same woman who played little Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl. She might not scream her lungs out on “House On A Hill,” but it’s a potent tune all the same. I love how the percussion at the beginning and end sounds like a human heartbeat. I also love how it starts off with acoustic guitars, as though it’s going to be a mellow pop rock ballad, then the drums and electric guitars kick in and it comes at you like a classic power ballad, only slightly darker. That it’s so haunting is just an added bonus. Fantastico.
