Neon Neon is the side-project of Super Furry Animals’ frontman Gruff Rhys and producer Boom Bip. “Hammer & Sickle” is our favorite song from their latest album, Praxis Makes Perfect, which we highly recommend, though we’d suggest you first check out their flawless debut, Stainless Style, being that said debut is a bit more “accessible,” as critics (not us) like to say all of the time. We love “Hammer & Sickle” because it’s a glimmering slice of synth pop with a dash of melancholic art rock and a big, red cherry on top. And the video is wonderful. But you already know that because you’re watching it now. Right?

Neon Neon (Gruff Rhys and Boom Bip) present ‘Praxis Makes Perfect’ – a conceptual power pop tour de force inspired by the colourful life of maverick Italian publisher Giagiacomo Feltrinelli.
Born in to one of Italy’s wealthiest families, Feltrinelli was a left-wing political activist and published some of the greatest literary works of the 20th century, including ‘The Leopard’ and ‘Doctor Zhivago’. He died in highly suspicious circumstances in 1972.
‘Praxis Makes Perfect’ features Sabrina Salerno, Asia Argento, Cate Le Bon, Josh Klinghoffer and follows Neon Neon’s 2008, Mercury-shortlisted debut ‘Stainless Style’; a concept album based on the life of colourful motoring mogul John DeLorean.
