#songoftheday MELANIE MARTINEZ: “DOLLHOUSE”

We knew Melanie Martinez was destined for good things after seeing her performances on The Voice, but no one could have predicted that her first official, post-Voice single would be this darn good.  What an amazing, artsy pop gem.  From the mesmerizing beats to the trippy melody, which suits Melanie’s offbeat voice perfectly, everything about this song is brilliant.

“D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E, I see things that nobody else sees,” she sings, her voice a perfect blend of icy and sweet, sounding wise beyond her years as she tells the tale of a family full of secrets.

The video is spell-binding, too.  Wow.  Truly, this one is so fantastic that it actually reminds us of Kerli’s first album, which is easily one of the top 10 pop albums of the past decade.  In all seriousness, this song could — and should — be as huge as Lorde’s “Royals,” especially since it’s in a similar offbeat vein.
