As you well know by now, I’ll listen to music in any language and so today’s song of the day is Mexican singer Paulina Rubio’s “Mi Nuevo Vicio” featuring Morat. There’s always something wonderful about the way the Spanish language meshes with rhythmic music and “Mi Neuvo Vicio” is a perfect example of that, Rubio’s voice tangling with the rhythm guitars and uppity drum beats in a way that’s nothing short of intoxicating. I’ve always liked her voice and it seems to get better with age. Perhaps she just feels more relaxed following years and years of monstrous success. In any case, this is a fun song and it’s sure to make you feel like dancing. Just don’t fault it for having a little bit of a country vibe with banjo of all things thrown into the mix.
I just have one negative thing to say here and it’s about the video, which keeps showing her waking up in the morning to the sound of her alarm clock. Yes, alarm clock. Who wants to hear a damn alarm clock when you’re listening to a sweet song? So, I could have done without that, but it’s only a small complaint.
