#songoftheday / REVIEW: YOUNG & SICK: “Ghost Of A Chance” (RAC Remix)

Sometimes a remix can be so good that the artist being remixed will actually drop it before releasing their original album version.  Such is the case with this remix of Young & Sick’s “Ghost of a Chance” by RAC.  Since we haven’t heard the original version of the song, it’s tough to compare them, but there are some RAC trademarks here.  First of all, this doesn’t sound like a remix so much as a different version of a song.  And that’s what you always get when RAC does a remix.  He simply performs the song in his own style, as if it were his own track.  To that end, RAC’s specialty is the bass guitar and he does some truly funky stuff here, delivering a mixture of smooth bass lines along with some exquisite snap bass action.  And the groovy beats and vibrant keyboards are pure RAC, too.  Of course, Young & Sick gets props for his tender lyrics, lovely melody and soulful vocals, but it’ll be hard for his original album version of this puppy to top RAC’s take on it.

This remix will appear on the upcoming Ghost Fetish EP, which will be released November 2nd on Virgin EMI (UK) and Harvest (US).  The EP features additional  remixes from Wilfred Giroux, Ta-ku and Act!on.

Young & Sick, aka musician, vocalist, producer and visual artist Nick Van Hofwegen, is currently on tour with Chance The Rapper in the US. You can check out the remaining dates here – https://www.facebook.com/youngandsick/app_123966167614127
