#songoftheday / REVIEW: UGLY BUNNY: “WE LIVE FOR THE NIGHT”

Back in March of this year Ugly Bunny’s TOKYO album was an #albumoftheday.  You’d think Camryn might take some time to chill after releasing their debut album.  But, no, he has already returned with new material.  And a new sound.  To be sure, it still sounds like Ugly Bunny.  But the material, such as “We Live For The Night,” packs heavier, meaner beats and the sound overall is considerably darker.  “We won’t run from the night / The night runs from us / Cause we don’t need love,” begins the haunting chorus.  Perhaps it’s a goth-flavored sentiment, but the sound is more like Depeche Mode or even Nine Inch Nails, a melding of the dark side of ’80’s synth pop with a dash of ’90’s industrial.  If you like monster beats and darkwave, this night will be your paradise.
