#songoftheday/ REVIEW: City and Colour – “Woman”

City and Colour’s new opus, “Woman,” is so good it’s startling.  I’m truly in awe of this one.  At 9:16, I feared it might be a little monotonous but whenever it gets at all repetitious, it’s just sucking you in further, tripping your mind out.  To that end, it has a serious trip-hop vibe going on, especially during the verses.  It’s probably better described as art rock though.  Then again, perhaps you could even call it prog rock.  One thing is for certain, regardless of what you call it: it’s stellar (in every sense of the word).  In fact, it made me think of those videos of the earth taken from shuttles in space.  I picture the earth getting smaller and smaller as the shuttle goes in the opposite direction…  Listen and see what kind of voyage it takes you on as it gradually grows and grows until it finally erupts with massive drums, thick bass and sonorous guitars.

You’ll especially love this one if you’re into Alt-J or Sigur Ros.
