#songoftheday = JON BON JOVI: “DO WHAT YOU CAN” (LIVE FROM JERSEY4JERSEY) #songsforourtimes #22

“When you can’t do what you do / You do what you can,” sings Jon Bon Jovi earnestly on his Covid-19-themed song “Do What You Can,” which he debuted last night during Jersey4Jersey, a benefit show on behalf of the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund (NJPRF) to fight the medical, social and economic impact of the virus on New Jersey’s most vulnerable communities. Other performers included Halsey, Tony Bennett and Bruce Springsteen. “Do What You Can” might be a simple sentiment, but it’s certainly one we all need to be reminded of these days as most of us remain inside our homes, hiding out from the virus, longing to get back to everyday life. What I love about the song is how Jon gets into specifics about what’s happening now during the verses, singing about everything from building hospitals to turning off the lights on Broadway. Hearing little details like that — straight out of the news — makes the song that much more relatable and timely and those are two things we very much need some new music to be right now.

I’m not a big Bon Jovi fan but that was nice. hoping they do a version with the whole band.
