#songoftheday = BIG BLACK DELTA FEAT. KIMBRA: “BITTEN BY THE APPLE”

Big Black Delta is the solo project of Mellowdrone frontman and M83 collaborator Jonathan Bates.  On his new single “Bitten By The Apple,” he collaborates with Grammy winning singer Kimbra for a song that has big, gleaming synth but also manages to sound dark because — at least to my ears — the chords resemble funeral music.  At first I thought I was just listening to a super catchy art pop song, but at some point it gave me chills as it put forth the sort of vibe one usually gets from doom metal.  Call it pretty and twisted.  I love it though!  I always appreciate a good pop song that leans into the darker side of things and this one is a perfect black diamond.

“Bitten By The Apple” is taken from Trágame Tierra, an album Bates funded through Pledge Music, which is set for release on April 22nd.  The album is Bates’ second under the Big Black Delta name.
