#songoftheday / #amlistening = FFS (FOR FUCKS SAKE): “ENGLISH SKIES”

James of Arth & Arth fame hits that sweet spot again with his second solo single as For Fucks Sake, “English Skies.”  It’s a trippy tune with a hypnotic video that takes you through the skies as its clouds grow darker and darker.  Suffice to say, the whole thing feels ominous, like a severe thunderstorm is going to erupt any second.

Whereas FFS’s debut single “Bones” was in the witch house vein, this one is a bit more ambient, almost in the vein of Moby’s beloved Play album.  However, James’ vocals here remind me of Tom Waits and Scott Walker.  He has that rough around the edges quality going for him.  I’m not always a fan of that, but it totally works for him and serves the song well.  A splendid tune indeed.

This one is so hypnotic I’m afraid I’d drive my car into a tree if I listened to it while driving. Love it however.

This is diabolical — just the way I like ’em.
