RED HOT SONG / AWESOME VIDEO: MELANIE MARTINEZ: “PITY PARTY”

Melanie Martinez, one of my favorites from The Voice, unleashes her creativity upon the world with her new song and video, “Pity Party,” which includes an interpolation of “It’s My Party And I’ll Cry If I Want To” — or whatever that oldie is called.  You know the song I’m talking about.  “Pity Party” reminds me of Lorde, Banks and Taylor Swift.  It’s like someone took DNA from all three of them and created Melanie.  Well, not really, but that should give you an idea as to what this song sounds like.  Not that you need me to tell you because you’re obviously already listening to the track above, right?  Anyway, I think it’s catchy and emotive and I love it.  I truly wish Melanie all the success that Lorde has had or at least as much as Banks has had, which is quite a lot, too.  Melanie deserves to be an art pop star du jour.  And today she is, at least here on Love is Pop.
