RED HOT PROG: OCEANS OF SLUMBER: “WINTER”

Prog rock/metal outfit Oceans of Slumber will be releasing their new album Winter worldwide on March 4th, but today they have unveiled the epic title track, complete with a video.

As anyone who’s read my reviews for a while now can tell you, I’m very picky about what prog music I like.  Most of it is too abstract for my tastes.  But Oceans of Slumber have been one of my favorite prog bands ever since I first heard their covers EP Blue, on which they tackle Candlemass, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, among others.  Each of the songs on Blue is reinterpreted, no paint by numbers bullshit, and that’s what makes them so enchanting.  You never know where they’re going to take the songs as they add their little touches here, there and everywhere.  If Winter is as eclectic as the EP, it’ll be one of next year’s best prog releases for sure.  In the meantime, we now have a new Winter-themed song that isn’t about Christmas!

And here’s the Winter album cover…
