“Tonight we are victorious
Champagne pouring over us
All my friends were glorious
Tonight we are victorious,” sings Panic! At The Disco’s Brandon Urie for the chorus of the band’s sizzling new single, “Victorious.” He sings it with a contagious sense of pride and enthusiasm, making it a perfect arena rock anthem. This shouldn’t surprise people, as they were clearly heading into anthem territory with their last album and, hey, they’re good at it. If this song doesn’t get you pumped up and make you want to go hang out with your friends then there’s probably something wrong with you. (Unless this sort of music just isn’t your thing, of course.) I feel nothing but excited when I listen to this song. They certainly earn the exclamation point in their name with this one. That said, I am hoping that their forthcoming album, Death of a Bachelor, will have some of that wonderful “literary” music they’re known for. You know, songs with super long titles and mighty clever lyrics. Because, sure, this song rules, but it would be nice if the album has some substance, too.
