To quote the track, “Red alert – it’s contagious!”  If ever a song summed itself up perfectly, it’s half Dutch, half Indian singer/songwriter Nathassia’s ultra-hot new single, “Contagious,” which we are very excited to be premiering on Love is Pop!

It starts off with dark and seductive Massive Attack-esque, trip-hop percussion, Nathassia’s vocals sounding gorgeous and colorful over what otherwise might feel entirely ominous, but once it hits the chorus the tempo goes bonkers as lively drum ‘n’ bass beats explode like a volcano erupting.  To say it becomes invigorating at that point is an understatement.

Trip-hop and drum ‘n’ bass are rooted in the ’90’s, but the way Nathassia combines them today feels new and exciting and her timing is perfect with both genres starting to see a resurgence.  Imagine if Joanna Newsom decided to make electronic music and that’s what we’ve got here.  She’s like a darker, renegade Natalie Imbruglia or Kylie Minogue, and she’s already tearing up radio in Russia, Greece and France, among other countries, so check her out now so you can be the cool one who introduces her to your friends.
