EVERYTHING COMING TO (AND DEPARTING) NETFLIX IN MARCH

Well, color me excited!  March will bring us new seasons of House of Cards, Daredevil and Happy Valley, three of my favorite Netflix series.  Only trouble is, I’m still trying to catch up on the shows on my DVR.  Oh well, that’s a nice problem to have, isn’t it?

In addition to the above-mentioned I also would recommend The Returned.  You’re probably confused because it says The Returned: Season 1, yet they already had season 1 and 2 of the series, right?  Nope!  They already have the original French series’ first two seasons.  The version they’re getting in March is the U.S. version.  Initially, I disliked the U.S. version because it was like a paint-by-numbers cover version of the French version.  But as it went on, there were little plot variations and then they did four more episodes than the first season of the French series.  And, no, those extra four didn’t mirror the second season of the French series — they could not have because the second season of the French series wasn’t even done being written at that point, to the best of my knowledge.  So, the writers of the U.S. version had to come up with those four episodes entirely on their own.  So, if you like the French series, it’s worth watching the U.S. version so that you can see what they did beyond the show’s first eight episodes.  Admittedly, some of the acting on the U.S. version isn’t as good as the acting on the French series, but there are a couple of instances where the characters in the U.S. version are played by better actors than the French series.  At least in my opinion.  I won’t say which actors because I don’t want to meddle with your expectations.

If you haven’t watched either version of The Returned, I would watch the French series first, since that’s the original and it’s decidedly darker than the U.S. version, which I quite liked.  But, yes, unless you know French, you’ll have to read subtitles to watch the French series.
