Today one of the year’s best singer-songwriter pop albums has been unleashed upon the world: Catie Turner’s intoxicating Blue Alchemy. And to celebrate the album’s release, Catie has just released a rather fun new video for her song “Girls’ Girl,” a collaboration with her former roommate Sophie Holohan. It’s an irresistible earworm that slithers its way inside your head and stays there for days. But you won’t mind because it’s so darn catchy. In fact, don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing along to the entire contagious chorus.
The song also provides some food for thought, tackling a subject many people are familiar with: having a friend who ditches you when they suddenly have a significant other. In Catie’s case, she’s singing about a female friend who drops her friends when they ask her if she’s sure the person she’s seeing is “the one.” The song starts off with Catie and Sophie being angry with their preoccupied friend, but ultimately turns the concept upside down when they invite her to return when she comes back down, singing, “We got an open house, you should come around.”
Blue Alchemy is 14 thought-provoking and charming songs long. I highly recommend it.
