Brother and sister duo Angus & Julia Stone continue to take one’s breath away with their new single, “Snow,” which feels a lot more like summer than its namesake. The overall ambiance of the track — particularly its lovely background music — reminds me of The Beach Boys. They also remind me of The Civil Wars on this one, obviously the mellower music of The Civil Wars, but still. Makes me dream of an alternate universe where I’m driving along the Pacific Coast Highway in a red Corvette at dusk and the cops don’t pull me over for speeding because I’m blasting such refreshing music.
If you like this track, you should love the music of Auni, whose interview we’re planning to post on Tuesday. Although her music is made with classical instruments, Auni’s laid-back mood, ethereal vocals and organic sound are similar Angus & Julia Stone.
Here’s the press release:
Today sees Australian alt- pop pair, Angus & Julia Stone, return with ‘Snow’, the first taste of music to be unveiled from their highly-anticipated forthcoming new album. ‘Snow’ is an intimate, mesmerising track filled with scratchy, sparse guitar and a gently driving organ, which begins the next enchanting journey with the brother-sister duo. ‘Snow’ is available to purchase & stream on all major platforms HERE and you can listen on YouTube HERE.
‘Snow’ emerged from the overall album recording process, a process which saw the Sydney-born siblings produce and largely engineer everything themselves, in Angus’s cottage studio, Belafonté, in the Byron Bay hinterland. Discussing this process, Julia says, “It was quite magical because Angus and I have never spent that much time together, just the two of us. There’s always at least an engineer or tour manager but the last phase of writing and recording was just eight weeks of him and me and the quiet of the land. It was a beautiful time.”
Angus & Julia Stone have also announced a run of European & UK dates in support of their forthcoming new album. The new live plot, which makes up the band’s biggest tour to date, includes a date at London’s Brixton Academy on 7thNovember. Tickets are available from Friday 16th June and can be found here: http://angusandjuliastone.com/
Since the duo began performing together in 2006, their story has unfolded with an almost magical magnetism that has galvanised the world. Their albums have amassed multi-platinum sales, won a fanbase of millions over spiralling tours here in the UK, Europe and North America, and have over 5 million listeners who tune in, to stream their music from all over the world.
Their quietly hypnotic songs have infiltrated film and TV from the recent Woody Harrelson film ‘The Edge of 17’ to TV shows like ‘Pretty Little Liars’, ‘Suits’ & ‘Revenge’. They have cast their spell over the world’s key festivals: Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Rock Werchter, Hurricane, Austin City Limits, Electric Picnic, and Splendour in the Grass.
