#songoftheday / VIDEO: Paul McCartney: “HOPE FOR THE FUTURE”

“Hope shines brightest in the dark,” sings the legendary Paul McCartney during his new single “Hope For The Future.”  The video is kind of strange, as it appears to take place on a post apocalyptic earth, or some planet out of Star Wars, with robots or men in robot suits watching a hologram of McCartney sing the song.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel confident about a future where humans would seem to be extinct or nearly extinct… In fact, that tends to make me feel rather hopeless.  So, I’m going to assume it takes place on another planet.  It does show what seem to be aliens in it.  They don’t look especially friendly though.  Anyway, let’s talk about the song itself.  It’s not an immediately catchy number, so I can see it taking a few listens for some people to get into it, but I honestly think it’s one of the best things McCartney has ever done.  Even the song itself has something of a sci-fi vibe with little electro-beats and bleeps driving the song, which isn’t what you’d expect from McCartney, but, hey, at least he’s open to trying new things and not rewriting classics by The Beatles.  I applaud the fact that this is so wildly imaginative.  And I suspect this is what The Beatles might sound like if they were still around today, being that they always seemed so open to trying new things.
