First of all, you have to check out the video above. It was directed by Syndrome and it’s quite fascinating and creepy; we won’t try to describe it because you should just watch it and see for yourself. In any case, “American Beauty/American Psycho” is one hell of a tune. “She’s an American beauty / I’m an American psycho,” sings frontman Patrick Stump, over and over again. To that end, it’s quite the hypnotic tune. And it has such jumpy energy that it puts you on edge, commanding you to give it your full attention. Which we happily did. And we really admire the creativity that went into this. It’s definitely different, refusing to simply follow a verse chorus verse formula, jumping around from here and there as though someone snipped out pieces of the song and then put it back together again. Which may very well be what they did in the studio. In any case, it’s a great tune. And it might even win over some of Marilyn Manson’s fans.
