Petite Meller’s “Baby Love” features joyous African percussion and the video was filmed on location in Africa and featured lots of local children. So, it should come as no surprise that Meller turned to The Very Best for the remix. As stated below, “The Very Best is a collaboration between London based DJ/production duo Radioclit and Esau Mwamwaya, a singer from Lilongwe, Malawi. Their music has been described as an Afro-Western mix of dance, hip-hop, pop, and the traditional music of Malawi.” And what a remix it is! Lots of intense, bouncy beats, as if the song needed any more beats to make it more infectious and danceable. And fans of the original version will be happy to know that the song itself remains in tact at the core, the remix even featuring the wonderful sax solo, though it’s not quite so loud in the mix here. This is definitely not one of those remixes where the remixer basically just makes up their own song and throws in a tiny vocal sample or two from the original version. Now, if you’ll excuse me, we’re having another blizzard here in the Boston area, so I’m going to go dance to this and hopefully warm up!
