Japanese metallers BABYMETAL have just released a new, English version of their smash hit “Elevator Girl” and we’re loving it here at Love is Pop HQ! Like the original version, it kicks some serious ass. From the chugging, in-your-face bass guitar, to its four-on-the-floor drums, to the blistering guitars, and of course, the girls’ sweet and adorable voices, everything about it is perfect. Personally, I’m also digging the fact that it doesn’t have any death metal grunting on it, unlike many of the group’s tracks. Now, I’m actually a fan of death metal, and I love their tracks that feature it, but it’s refreshing to hear the girls singing without any of that taking attention away from their voices for a change. That this version is English is just a bonus.
The B-sides here, “PA PA YA!!” and “Starlight” were previously released as singles in Japan and are both killers. “PA PA YA!!” is a good example of what their usual sound is like, as it contains lots of death metal vocals, and it’s mighty contagious. Even if you hate it at first, give it a few listens and see if it doesn’t rub off on you. And “Starlight” is one of my favorite BABYMETAL singles. It also has some death metal vocals, but not nearly as much as “PA PA YA!!,” so do give it a listen even if you can only tolerate twenty seconds of “PA PA YA!!”. And if you’re loving all of it you should be psyched to know that the band will be releasing a brand new studio album this year. I know I am.
Should you not be a fan of Spotify, you can listen to the “Elevator Girl” on several other outlets, all of which you can find links to here: https://tf.lnk.to/ElevatorGirl
