I’ve finished watching Rotten Legacy on Netflix. And I really can’t recommend it. For one thing, none of the characters are likable. They’re all self-centered, corrupt assholes, really. The show is centered around a family that owns a media empire. They’re kind of like The Murdochs of Spain. The show reminded me of Succession on HBO a bit.

When it begins, the father, played by Jose Coronado, has just returned after being treated for cancer in the U.S. for two years. And he does this interview where he throws his kids under the bus, revealing that his son used company money to buy subscriptions to increase their number of subscribers artificially, which is illegal, among other things. But the father does this interview and the interview goes into storage. As opposed to being aired on TV or otherwise put out there. The father just holds onto this interview and threatens to release it to manipulate his kids. But you don’t know if you’re supposed to be rooting for him or the kids. I ultimately decided that I didn’t like any of the characters so I didn’t really care what ended up happening to them. They were a miserable bunch of jerks and they deserved each other. And then in the end… almost nothing is resolved. It ends with major cliffhangers. You feel like it ends in the middle of an episode. Things are happening and you expect a climax and it just kind of ends without resolving much of anything. So if you hate cliffhangers then you definitely don’t want to watch this one. If you’re thinking about watching it, I would wait and see if Netflix gives it a second season. If there’s another season, great, we’ll eventually find out what happened. But if there’s no second season then watching the first one will just leave you feeling frustrated in the end.
I probably would have given up on this one after one or two episodes but I love Jose Coronado so I kept watching it just because I’m a fan of his.
