#albumoftheday = MARIAH CAREY – HERE FOR IT ALL

by Michael McCarthy

Mariah Carey quietly released a new album recently. It’s called Here For it All and it’s fantastic. Easily her best album since her first comeback album with “Shake It Off” came out over 20 years ago when I was living in California.

The first song on the new album, “Mi,” has her singing in a higher pitch than I think her voice is currently suited for so the first couple of times I tried to listen to the album, I didn’t make it through that song. But I listened to the whole album finally about a week ago and I’ve listened to it about ten times since. The rest of the album sounds fine. Not sure why she’d put the song where her voice sounds a little strained first but she sounds like vintage Mariah on the rest of the album. If you’ve never been a fan, it’s certainly not going to make one out of you, but if you were a fan in the past, then it’s definitely time to give her another chance. You won’t be disappointed. This one is right up there with albums like Music Box and Butterfly.

If you’ve loved Mariah’s ballads over the years, check out “Nothing is Impossible” first. It will blow you away. Super touching and inspiring. Right up there with “Hero.” She also covers the old love song “My Love” quite beautifully. But the R&B and pop songs are great, too. “Type Dangerous” or “Sugar Sweet” would be a good place to start if that’s more your cup of tea. Honestly, I’d say listen to the whole album from start to finish but I think for your introduction to it you should skip the first song so you aren’t put off like I initially was.
