“I’m gonna swing from the chandelier,” Sia sings enthusiastically during the massive chorus of her new single, “Chandelier,” which is without a doubt the best song she’s written during the past few years, which have seen her writing songs for a myriad of other artists with her solo career on pause. We’ll be the first to admit that it’s a bit of a quirky song, as it starts off sounding like Major Lazer-style reggae until it hits the explosive chorus and bursts to life with a cool arena rock vibe. But the fact of the matter is that it’s catchier than anything we’ve heard this year, sans doubt, and a triumphant return from one of artsy pop’s most talented artists.

We’re well aware that many of the songs she’s written for other artists, especially during the past year, have been rather formulaic if not generic, but if the money she’s made from writing those has given her the money to self-finance her new album and do things exactly her way without having to compromise with anyone then we’re now convinced that it was worth it. Honestly, we were losing faith in her after reading that now infamous Billboard interview where she wore a brown bag on her head on the cover and freely admitted to writing generic tunes for other artists, actually outlining her formula for doing so, but now that we’ve heard this entirely awesome tune we’re definitely fans again.
