I’ve just finished watching Billionaires’ Bunker on Netflix. It’s the new show by the writers of Money Heist (Esther Martínez Lobato and Álex Pina), one of the best Netflix series of all-time. But this Bunker is definitely not as good as Money Heist. I really enjoyed it and it was very suspenseful, but at the same time there were countless things that happened that didn’t add up. I won’t give any examples because I know you don’t like spoilers. The only thing I’ll say is that it often happens that the characters just magically seem to know things and when you think about it, there’s no logical way that they would’ve known them. Again, I don’t want to spoil anything. But if you don’t like shows that are hard to believe then you won’t like it. It’s very far-fetched.
It’s basically about a scam. This group of con artists create an end of the world, underground bunker and convince these rich people who buy tickets for it that the world is ending. They lure all of these rich folks into the bunker so they can scam them.
Another problem with the show is that it focuses too much on certain characters and there are also times when it’s not balanced very well, meaning that there’s a character who you see every few minutes throughout several episodes but then suddenly in one episode they’re barely in it and there’s no explanation about why. So many things just happen that don’t add up.
Look, this is the only series I’ve binged in weeks. I’m watching something like eight different shows and just alternating between them. They’re good shows, but they don’t keep me glued to my seat. But Billionaires’ Bunker did. Suffice to say, there are obviously some good things about it if I found it that addictive. If it sounds intriguing to you, give it a watch. It is very well directed and the acting is fantastic. But the writing, yeah, lots of unplausible things happen and they happen often.
The only other thing I will say to caution you is that it ends with MAJOR cliffhangers. Almost nothing gets resolved. They bring you to the edge of your seat and then… it’s over. And you just have to hope that there’s another season so you find out what happens. But it’s such a tease.
I don’t know how well the series is doing but I do hope it gets a second season. Money Heist had five seasons and they even remade it in Korea. Hopefully, Netflix feels like they owe these writers and they renew it. My guess is that it will do well because it is damn compelling. Just incredibly far-fetched and difficult to believe more often than not.
