“Carmen” is French artist Stromae’s latest single from his excellent album Racine carrée. It is a “tribute” to Twitter and our consumption of tweets. (He even has a crazy blue Twitter bird following him around throughout the video.) I put tribute in quotes because it isn’t praising Twitter but pointing out how ridiculous it is that we’re so obsessed with it. Part of the first verse, translated: “First you sign up, and afterwards you follow / You lose your mind and then you end up alone.” Another lyric: “This bird from hell, I’ll put it in a cage.” That said, Stromae has nearly 2 million followers on Twitter, so he must not think it’s all bad. I chose it as #songoftheday today because, well, it’s highly infectious and it makes you think. Parfait!
