Well, well, well… What have we got here? A BALLAD from Sleigh Bells? Yes, indeed. “I Can Only Stare.” It’s probably not what anyone wanted from Sleigh Bells, but now it exists and if you listen to it with an open mind and try to forget the fact that it’s Sleigh Bells then you just might enjoy it. Me, I imagined it was a Dum Dum Girls song the second time I listened to it after feeling queasy the first time. Then it started to grow on me. I’m still not in love with it, but I figure it’s worthy of our attention. We owe it to the duo, Alexis Krauss and Derek E. Miller, after all the joyous heavy songs they’ve given us.
“I Can Only Stare” is taken from Sleigh Bell’s new album, Jessica Rabbit, which is due out on November 11th.
